The broad area of Visual Arts – Design encompasses communication and graphic design, environmental design, and product design. This subject emphasises a problem-solving approach to the generation of ideas or personally relevant concepts, and the development of visual representation skills to communicate resolutions. An integral part of Visual Arts - Design is the documentation of visual thinking and idea generation, and the refinement of technical skills. Students use a variety of media, materials, techniques, and methods in Visual Arts – Design, including digital software.
At Stage 1 assessment is school-based. During a teaching, learning and assessment program the teacher makes decisions about the quality of evidence of student learning against the performance standards demonstrated through assessments. At the end of the program, the teacher uses the performance standards to make an on-balance decision about the quality and standard of a student’s set of evidence of learning. Students have the opportunity to demonstrate evidence of their learning in Stage 1 Visual Arts: Design through the following assessment types:
Assessment Type 1: Folio
Assessment Type 2: Practical
Assessment Type 3: Visual Study
Visual Arts: Design enables students to develop the skills required to continue their study in Stage 2 Visual Arts: Design.
